Reflections on "the LunchBox"

Reflections on The Lunchbox

The Lunchbox (2013) - IMDb

Yesterday I saw the movie "The Lunch Box", it's set in India, and it's about a housewife who prepares a lunch box everyday and has it sent to her husband so that he can eat a home cooked lunch. But the lunchbox ends up being delivered to the wrong man and a friendship develops between her and the older man that receives the lunchbox. The old man named Sajaan is a widow, who's been doing accounting at a company for 35 years and is about to retire. He is a lonely person who keeps to himself and is very serious and reserved. It made me think about the lonely people I've met and how important small interactions with people are, the daily interactions we have everyday but don't give much thought to. I also thought about how we close ourselves off, how we miss so many opportunities to interact and create with people and how that can lead to loneliness. I've been doing it a lot lately. Perhaps it's because this job is all about dealing with people all the time, once I clock out I just want to be alone without having to pretend, without having to negotiate or deal with disappointment.

In the Lunch box Saajan didn't have the courage to leave with Ila because he saw her youth and beauty and didn't feel like he was good enough. It's so easy to stay in what you know, in what is comfortable. It takes a great amount of courage to swim into uncharted waters uncertain about the outcome. I reflected on this also as I was thinking about the need to make changes in my life. I think life is about the people in your life and the good things you have to offer each other and your fight to fulfill your desires and dreams. That's what I'll focus on. Everything else will come.
